English Alpine Championships 2009 – Bormio

Friday 20.2.09 Children’s Slalom

The day started with some cloud but much warmer than of late. At the start of the race the temperature in the finish was up to 2C. As the day progressed the sun broke through and for the fiist time this week the ice began to melt in the streets.

Snow conditions however remained good as the hard base was not affected by the increase in temperature. The slalom piste is the lowest start available that ends in the stadium, meaning that spectators got a good view of the proceedings.

The race started with the girls and the boys followed through the same set of gates. Second runs were completed promptly and the race was finished about 2pm. The racing was as competitive as any we have seen this week.

As in yesterday’s GS there are two races of one run each with the two counting towards the English Alpine Championship Title. Individual race results are as follows:
